Privacy Policy
Last updated: November 2, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Velio Projects, Inc. (dba Sugar) (“Sugar,” “we,” or “us”) collects, uses and shares information about you when you use our messaging app, Kid, the Sugar App Clip, our website at [sugar domain], and our related services (collectively, the “Service”). It should be read together with our Terms of Service.
Sugar is where you talk with your friends, so we keep this simple: we use your information to run the Service for you and the people you talk to, we don’t sell it, and we don’t use your private messages to target ads.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Give Us
Account information. Your phone number, which we verify by text message, and the name, profile photo and other details you choose to add.
Your content. The messages, photos, files, voice notes, locations, polls, checklists, plans and other content you send or create in chats, and the shared apps you add to a chat.
What you ask Kid. The questions and requests you give Kid, the private notes it gives you, and the plans you approve or decline.
Contacts. If you allow it, the phone numbers and names in your address book, so you can find friends on Sugar and invite those who aren’t. You can turn this off in your phone’s settings.
Messages from you to us. Anything you send us, such as support requests, reports and feedback.
1.2 Information From Connected Tools
If you connect a tool to the vault, such as a calendar or a booking service, we receive the information that tool shares with us within the permissions you grant: for example, whether you are free at a certain time so Kid can answer “Am I free Thursday?”. You can disconnect a tool at any time, and we stop receiving its information when you do.
1.3 Information Others Give Us
Other people may give us information about you: a friend may have your number in their contacts, message you, invite you to Sugar, add you to a group, or mention you in a chat. If someone messages you before you join, we store that message so we can deliver it if you open their invite or join Sugar.
1.4 Information Collected Automatically
Device and usage information. Your device model, operating system, app version, language, time zone, IP address, and how you use the Service (for example, which features you open and when), along with crash and performance logs.
Location. Your precise location only when you choose to share it in a chat, such as in a location bubble. We may estimate your general location from your IP address.
Invite and App Clip information. When you open an invite link, which link it was and who sent it, so we can open the right conversation and carry it over if you install Sugar.
2. How We Use Information
We use information to:
(a) provide the Service: deliver your messages, sync chats and shared apps across your devices and the people in each chat, and show you who is on Sugar;
(b) run Kid: generate answers, private notes, drafts and plans for you, and use Connected Tools when you approve it;
(c) keep the Service safe: verify accounts, prevent spam and abuse, review reports, and enforce our Terms of Service;
(d) communicate with you: send verification codes, notifications, and messages about the Service and changes to it;
(e) improve the Service: understand how features are used, fix bugs and build new features, using aggregated or de-identified information where we can; and
(f) meet legal obligations and protect the rights, property and safety of our users and others.
3. Kid and Artificial Intelligence
3.1 What Kid Sees
When you ask Kid something in a chat, Kid uses your request and the parts of that chat it needs to answer, along with information from any tools you’ve connected. Kid’s panel is private to you: other people in the chat cannot see your requests or your private notes unless you share something into the chat.
3.2 AI Providers
Kid runs on models provided by third-party AI providers, currently [AI providers]. We send them only what is needed to answer each request. Our agreements with them do not allow them to use your information to train their models.
3.3 Training
We do not use the content of your private messages or your Kid conversations to train AI models without your permission. If we ever ask for that permission, it will be a clear choice you can change at any time.
4. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share information only as follows:
With the people you talk to. Your profile and Your Content are shared with the people and groups you message. Shared apps in a chat are visible to and editable by everyone in that chat.
With service providers. Companies that help us run the Service, such as cloud hosting, text-message verification, AI providers, maps, analytics and customer support, under contracts that limit how they can use it.
With Connected Tools. When you approve an action, we send the tool what it needs to carry it out, such as the time and party size for a booking.
For legal reasons. When we believe in good faith that the law requires it, or to protect the safety, rights or property of our users, Sugar or the public.
In a business transfer. As part of a merger, acquisition, financing or sale of assets, in which case this policy continues to apply to your information.
With your consent. In any other case, only when you ask us to or agree to it.
5. How Long We Keep Information
We keep your account information while your account is active. Messages and shared apps are kept so you and the people in each chat can see your history, until they are deleted. Messages waiting for someone who hasn’t joined Sugar are deleted after [retention period] if they are never delivered. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your information within [deletion period], except for messages already delivered to others, copies kept in backups for a limited time, and information we must keep for legal, safety or security reasons.
6. Your Choices and Rights
6.1 In the App
You can edit your profile, turn off contact syncing, stop sharing your location, mute Kid’s peeks, disconnect Connected Tools, block and report people, delete messages and shared apps, and delete your account, all in the app.
6.2 Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or get a copy of your personal information, to object to or limit some uses of it, and to withdraw consent you gave us. To make a request, email [privacy email]. We will verify your request using your phone number and respond within the time the law requires. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
6.3 Notifications
You can turn off push notifications in your device settings. We may still send messages you need, such as verification codes.
7. Security
We protect your information with technical and organizational safeguards, including encryption in transit and at rest, and access controls that limit who at Sugar can see it. No system is completely secure, so we can’t guarantee that information will never be accessed without permission. Keep your device and verification codes safe, and tell us at [security email] if you see anything wrong.
8. Children
The Service is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, contact us at [privacy email] and we will delete it.
9. International Transfers
We are based in [country] and process information there and in other countries where we or our service providers operate. Where the law requires it, we use appropriate safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses, for these transfers.
10. Notice to California Residents
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act gives you the right to know what personal information we collect, use and disclose; to delete it; to correct it; and to opt out of its sale or sharing. In the last 12 months we have collected the categories of information described in Section 1, for the purposes in Section 2, and disclosed them only as described in Section 4. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the law, and we do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for purposes that would give you the right to limit it. To exercise your rights, email [privacy email]; you may use an authorized agent.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will tell you in the app or by another reasonable method before they take effect, and we will update the date at the top of this page.
12. Contact Us
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or how we handle your information, contact us at [privacy email] or by mail at Velio Projects, Inc., [street address, city, state, ZIP].
